The exhaust is installed now with Mustang 'isolators'. These are
rubber mounts that simply slide over a 1/2" rods that are welded to
the mufflers and the frame.
My
new headers are from Kaufmann.
I purchased them without a protective coating so I could weld in the
tubes for the Moroso crankcase evacuation system and to make sure
they fit the way I wanted first. They came with a one-piece
flange, that bolts to the head, but it was cut 99% thru between each
cylinder . I trimmed the flanges neatly around the exhaust
port. Now each tube of the headers is a separate piece (the
collectors slip on and are retained with a bolt to one of the
tubes). I 'm sure this made it easier for Space
Coast Plating to polish everything before the 'Jet Hot Coating'
that was applied. They look great now!
The
exhaust system I built uses Flow Master 3" inlet/outlet
mufflers, 3" exhaust tubing and a 2 1/4" crossover tube.
My
old headers were Doug Thorley Tri-Y's design for '80's 5.0 Mustang.
They fit the Ranger great and if it were not for the fact that the
Kaufmann headers disassemble into 10 pieces, the Mustang Tri-Y's would
be easier to install/remove.
